چکیده

The elemental, molecular (lipid) and isotopic ( ) composition of organic matter in samples from the eutrophic lake, Rostherne Mere, U.K. were examined at high resolution in a single sediment core from a deep part of the lake. The distributions of lipids indicate an important contribution of allochthonous organic matter to the Rostherne sediments. However, increases in concentrations of unsaturated and branched chain fatty acids, phytol and C27 and C28 sterols toward the surficial sediments, and changing carbon isotope composition and ratios, suggest that the autochthonous contribution to sedimentary OM has increased as a result of recent eutrophication. The elevated supply of labile OM to the sediments has influenced some key diagenetic processes, notably those of phytol degradation and higher plant triterpenoid degradation and aromatisation. REVIEW PAPER Lacustrine organic geochemistryman overview of indicators of organic matter sources and diagenesis in lake sediments

-The factors affecting the amounts and types of organic matter in lacustrine sediments are summarized in this review, and synthesis, of published studies. Biota hving in the lake and in its watershed are the sources of the organic compounds initially contributed to the lake system. Microbial reworking of these materials during sinking and early sedimentation markedly diminishes the total amount...

Organic Geochemistry and Paleoenvironments of Deposition of the Middle Jurassic Sediments from the Tabas Basin, Central Iran

In an attempt to reconstruct the paleoenvironments of deposition for the Middle Jurassic Baghamshah formation, samples collected from six outcrop sections along the Shotori swell were subjected to detailed geochemical analyses. Bulk geochemical and biological marker data indicate a logical trend of the variation of organic input, salinity, and oxicity within Baghamshah paleoenvironments across ...

Monitoring of environmental changes of Tabriz plain at Quaternary sediments

Abstract  Sediments provide a continuous, sensitive record of changing conditions of environment and processes within plain and in the surrounding plain, thus they contain significant archives of past environmental change on the continents. Valuable informations on regional and global scale patterns of past climate variability in the Azarbayjan region have been documented by numerous paleocli...

Sulfur Geochemistry of a Lacustrine Record from Taiwan Reveals Enhanced Marine Aerosol Input during the Early Holocene

Lacustrine record of marine aerosol input has rarely been documented. Here, we present the sulfur geochemistry during the last deglaciation and early Holocene of a sediment core retrieved from the Dongyuan Lake in southern Taiwan. An unusually high sulfur peak accompanying pyrite presence is observed at 10.5 ka BP. Such high sulfur content in lacustrine record is unusual. The δ34S of sulfur var...

A sediment record of trophic state change in an Arkansas (USA) reservoir

Reservoir sediments are used cautiously in paleolimnological studies because of dating uncertainties, possible sediment disturbances and even concerns that indicators of trophic status may behave differently in reservoirs as opposed to natural lakes. We measured loss on ignition (LOI), carbon to nitrogen ratio (C:N), diatom abundance, total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), TN:TP ratio, and...
